Getting Here and Around

If you are planning to use public transport to get around the area, it isn’t difficult, but a bit of planning is sensible as the area around Ollerton is quite rural. If you are visiting from abroad and are arriving at either East Midlands Airport or Robin Hood Airport, the airports’ websites provide comprehensive details of shuttle services to major towns and cities.

Bus services around the area

It is recommended that you pick up a copy of Nottinghamshire County Council’s local bus travel guide to the ‘Ollerton, Edwinstowe, Tuxford and Sutton on Trent Area’. It contains information about the frequency of buses, as well as details of all service operators, routes and council contacts. The leaflets are available from tourist information centres, bus stations and County Contact points. In addition, you may also find the leaflet ‘Blidworth, Bilsthorpe and Southwell Area’ useful for journeys. You can also view the information online at: www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/buses.

Buses that connect the sights of Sherwood

The Sherwood Arrow (Service 33) connects many of the attractions of the Sherwood area – Clumber Park, Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre, Rufford Abbey Country Park, White Post Corner and Nottingham. In the summer season (May–September) the Sherwood Forester bus also provides a connecting service designed for leisure travellers on Sundays and bank holidays. Special day passes are available. Look out for ‘Visit Nottinghamshire by bus’ leaflets at tourist information centres.

Railways

There is no railway station in Ollerton, Tuxford, Edwinstowe or any of the surrounding villages. The nearest stations are Newark, Mansfield Woodhouse, Mansfield, Retford and Worksop.

Taxis

If you are planning on using a taxi, you should ensure that it has been licensed by the local district council – licensed taxis have special licensed plates. A list of taxi services local to Ollerton can be found below. However, there are many others in neighbouring villages.
